Successfully was held a technical seminar with our world famous karate instructor Yahara Mikio 8th dan. It was attended by 130 people mostly from Italy but also from other countries such as Germany, Serbia, Malta, Russia, Greece, Tunisia. The course despite the fact that was open to all level and had participants from lower grades covered also advanced stuff such as kata Bassai-Dai, Jion, Unsu.
Central issue was the Yahara method, namely using the contraction and expansion of muscles and joints of legs and arms to turn the body into a weapon. There could be no better example than this of the sensei himself who one day ago seemed almost fragile from a long trip suddenly in dojo turned him to the person his opponents were trembling to face despite of being 63 years old. For the purpose of his demonstration sensei Yahara sometimes had chosen burly men who ... were destroyed with a single blow. The training programme was simple but quite difficult to practise if exercised properly.
The seminar was attended by two figures, of world Karate, former members of Italy's National Woman’s team of Karate, ex-world champions and old acquaintances of Yahara sensei himself of previous ITKF world championships. Nadia Ferluga and Cristina Rissone students of SHIRAI sensei.
At the end of the seminar we had the opportunity to talk with some people and with Christina Rissone herself who praised sensei saying that Yahara's karate today was much more mature than it used to be 35 years ago. The overall impression was very good, while the cost of the seminar was for two morning hours and two afternoon hours 40 €. Average wages in Italy are about 1500 € / month. Also we were impressed by the fact that was attended by many senior karatekas with grey hair, which means to us that beyond any personal vanity these people are still interested in enriching themselves and are pursuing their karate research.
At the end of the seminar grade exams were held in which this author member of KWF Greece was promoted to third dan and instructor D.
Here is another translated report from the website of sister organization KWF Italy.
After the technical seminar held by our chief international instructor Sensei Mikio Yahara, in Almese (Turin) June 6, 2010 took place under his guidance passing grades exams. Have passed the test (in the picture appear successful candidates with Shihan Mikio Yahara Sensei and Robert Riccomagno):
Congratulations to all!
* From here I would like to express my gratidude to those who helped me attend this seminar and mainly my good friends Fabricio GHIOSSO and Antonella ROTTIGNI, Silvio ROTTIGNI, Maria BOSCO, Nicola PIETRAFESA, but also many other as Dives sensei, Gianni, Marco, Franco, Cristina and I shall not forget Rossana, and Giovanna.
By the way there is something funny in the story as many people think that my surename is Kun. In fact Kun is an informal way of calling males who cannot be called san either because they are very young or because they do not have an important status.
